Sony STR-K520P Extremely Loud

I have a Sony STR-K520P receiver and it has worked great until a few years ago. I decided to hook it up and could not remember why I had not been using it. What I found out is that whenever I have something playing and then turn the volume up, even just to one, it blares really loud and sometimes goes into protect mode. I have done multiple resets and can not figure out why it is doing this. I am going to open it up tomorrow and see if there are any shorts on the board. If anyone has any ideas, any help is appreciated.

Either that, or have a tech clean the controls and jacks for you.
