Sound and Video not working

A couple days ago I thoroughly cleaned my computer and replaced the thermal compound on my cpu. Upon booting my computer up the sound does not work on anything. If I try to play a video on YouTube the video loads but does not play and if I try to play a video from my hard drive it will play but at an extremely slow rate of maybe a frame every couple of seconds.
When I cleaned my pc I had to unplug a couple of cords including the FireWire which connects to my sound system.
I have no clue what is wrong, please help 🙁

Is your sound chipset on your motherboard or separately in an PCI slot or external? As a first step, make sure that your OS detected the card.

It is external and it does show that it is detected

If the card is detected without issues I am not entirely sure what caused this. I had a similar issue with my external card once when some driver issue caused it to stop suddenly after which youtube videos couldn't be played at all and no other sounds came out either.
It was a restart that solved it back then and eventually a full windows installation for a permanent fix. Note sure what to say in your case, the low FPS local video problem sounds odd.
