After booting up my PC today the sound didn't work anymore. I turned my speakers on and the sound started playing from there, although it was on headphone mode. I switched to speakers mode and the sound kept playing.

What I already did:

  • ■ I rebooted the PC and the problem persists.
    ■ I tried using the motherboard's soundcard and the headphones worked.
    ■ I disconnected all three cables (1 from the speakers, 2 from the ZX controller or whatever it's called), and connected the headphones directly. In headphone mode it did not work. In speakers mode, it played a very very quiet sound, at full volume.
    ■ I connected the headphones to the speaker jack, and it worked.

I remember last time I turned the PC off it asked me to do some updating. Checking Windows Update it indeed says there was an update under the name CREATIVE - MEDIA, which might be the cause of this. What should I do?

Thanks

The CREATIVE - MEDIA thing was the problem. I've been able to solve this. Since it probably happened to more people, here is how I fixed it:

Uninstall all Soundblaster drivers in the controll panel. Go to device manager, and uninstall Soundblaster Audio Controller and Sound Blaster Z, and check remove drivers (probably redundant since you've manually done that). Restart the computer. Windows will probably automatically install those to again, and ask you to restart. After restarting again, install the drivers from creative website. Restart again. Should be working!
