Looking for any shadow dancer that can tell me where I might find some thief
sound bytes for my computer. Things that might be appropriate for startup,
the recycle bin, error messages, and so on. Any suggested sites would be
greatly appreciated because I am without a map and my fence stiffed me again
on directions.

TIA

Hiya, Lord,

I think, if you still have Thief 1 or 2 installed, the Dark engine has
all of the source sounds right there in the game folders in a format that's
pretty easy to grab.

Maybe someone here can refresh my memory further, but there are some
very large archive files in the games' folders that are really .ZIP files.
If you rename the extension to .ZIP you'll be able to open and browse them
freely.

In fact (and I could be way off here), I seem to remember (at least in
System Shock 2's iteration of the Dark engine) that if you either leave them
named *.ZIP, or unzip them fully, the game will still run fine.

As for Thief DS, the sounds appear to be squirreled away in .CSC files.
For my part, I've never heard of them before, and I'm not sure they can be
opened independently.

Hope that at least gets you moving in the right direction.

You can use a tool called "DXIW Sound Drone" to extract the sounds,

In TTLG forums, try a search and you should find a site
that already has them.
