Sound Card For Astro A40s With ASUS® MAXIMUS VI HERO

Hello,

I am getting a PC with the ASUS® MAXIMUS VI HERO motherboard and I will be using the Astro A40 headset. Will I need a sound card or will the motherboard be good enough?

Hello,

It should be more than OK, given the fact that your headphones has built-in amplifiers. For best quality though use the optical audio connection (SP/DIF).

If it has the mixiamp it doesn't matter, run the SP/DIF like mentioned above. If its the stand alone headphones they are only 32Ohms and will be fine. I run 80Ohm BeyerDynamics headphones and specifically got this board because of the better onboard sound. My PCI soundcard had to be retired and didn't want to fork out $100 for a PCI-E version.
