Sound Card Info Help!

I am Building a custom PC. I want to know if you NEED a sound card in order to hear out of the PC of have a headphones outlet, or if it`s just used to hear better sounds in higher quality. Thanks.

Motherboards come with integrated audio, so you will be able to hear sounds from either speakers or headphones.
If you want higher quality audio then you may want to get a separate sound card.
