How much do you care about sound quality? If you don't care that much and want basic sound output the motherboard's onboard audio is usually good enough.

If you desire higher quality audio, the you're going to need a sound card.

Well I would like to hear surround sound out of my headset. Logitech G930

It looks like the G930 gets all of it's audio output from the USB port, meaning a soundcard is unnecessary.
