How can I get the sound from my sound card down an HDMI cable to a second screen?

Do you mean sound card as in from the graphics card? Or an actual sound card with analog jacks?

If you meant graphics card audio via Hdmi to multiple monitors, then it might be possible if you own an Nvidia card, Amd should have something similar. Look under Configure Surround, PhsyX in NvidiaCP and check Span displays with surround and configure. I'm not sure what other settings are there, hopefully if you do have an Nvidia or Amd card it can do multiple audio streams.

Could probably find analog to hdmi audio converter to have the second monitor play audio if monitor doesn't have an jack input like some do but you won't have a picture. Why not just get pc speakers?

The second screen is in another room and we have a 30 metre HDMI cable

So you want audio in another room and trying to use the Hdmi cable, don't see this as being practical. Monitor audio might not even work without a picture signal. It'll be easier just to solder audio jacks at each end of a network cable and use this to a set of speakers in the other room.

Ok thanks. We will make up a 30 metre speaker cable from shielded audio cable.

No problem and good luck. I actually used cat5e cable to transmit audio to the gazebo in my backyard. Works perfectly and a role of cable without the ends would probably be cheaper than audio cable. Just a thought.
