Hello everyone!

Just some background information: I just bought the Sennheiser HD 558s to be used to music and gaming. I mostly play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. I used to use the Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Omegas and enjoyed them for gaming, but was looking for something more when listening to music. I currently DO NOT have a dedicated sound card. I'm just using the jack on my ASUS Z87-PLUS.

The Problem: I do not like how the HD 558s sound in CS:GO. I have trouble positioning enemy footsteps and hearing where shots come from.

My research: I learned that if I get a sound card, I can use surround sound which would help with my csgo problem. I have also tried Razer Surround Sound which worked wonders in csgo, but sadly distorted the sound (added a delay)

Question: Would getting a sound card help? If so, what one would you recommend? I would like it to be the biggest bang for my buck (~$50 Max)

Any feedback is much appreciated! Thanks.

Have you tried updating your motherboard's on-board Realtek audio and double checked the audio settings?

The Asus Xonar DG with it's Dolby Headphone might make a noticeable improvement.
