I recently did an upgrade to my computer SLI gtx 570. After I rebooted it turns out that the only audio I can use is my hdmi through the tv.

I've tried disabling the hdmi, while making my speakers the default devices. Nothing happens. The curious part is that it shows the green bar moving when my speakers are plugged in, but I hear nothing. I've tried multiple types of headphones (siberias, logitech, apple headphones) and nothing puts out sound. I've also tried both the front and rear audio ports.

My specs are as follows:
AMD fx 8150
16 gb ram
windows 7 prem
ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX
775w thermaltake and the two 570 gtx frozr ii and iii

I just tried reinstalling both my gpu drivers and checked the clean install and unchecked the hd audio drivers that come with my cards. I also reinstalled the audio drivers.

All right. I have a sound card and my choices are slightly different but nevertheless I have a similar problem from time to time. Occasionally, I'll wake from PC from sleep and I won't have any audio (Soundblaster x-fi) even though the test indicates there should be, with the green bars moving up and down. My only recourse is to restart my PC or change my card's decoding options (say from Dolby Digital to DTS or vice versa). After I do either my sound will generally work as it should.

I know it's obvious, but have you tried restarting the PC after selecting speakers as the default device?

Hmm, I'm about out of ideas but I guess I can offer one more suggestion; do you have a means to hook up an optical cable to test your audio? I mean, can your PC be plugged into an audio receiver if you've got one nearby? I'd be curious to hear if your digital out is working normally or if it's exhibiting the same symptoms as the analog jacks.

EDIT: Also, I suppose it couldn't hurt to check your BIOS/UEFI settings to see what the audio configuration is? Maybe instead of "auto" simply turn the onboard audio to "enabled" if it isn't already.

I've gone through bios and it doesn't have an auto only the enable or disable. (It was diabled.)

At this point im considering a usb sound card or something similar. I have no extra room on my mobo for an inboard soundcard because of the sli

It's already enabled. I found a fix that works for me though. My primary monitor has an audio out for the hdmi since theres no speakers on it. I just plugged everything into that. It's not fixing the problem but as long as i can use my headset I don't much care. It sound good enough. Thank you guys for all the help!

Other tips:
You could burn an Ubuntu disc and boot to that. If you get no sound via your GREEN stereo output on the motherboard with this then it's likely the onboard audio is damaged.

If you do, then it's a Windows software issue.
