Hey guys,

Earlier today my monitors suddenly disconnected and wouldn't get signal so i opened my pc and removed and reconnected everything whilst cleaning with compressed air. Everything seems to be up and running fine again apart from the Audio.. I remember when i first built this PC getting audio to work was a massive pain and ive forgotten what i did before. Ive connected my sound card to the motherboard and connected the HD AUDIO cable to it, is there something else im missing?

Cheers, Jed.

Since it worked BEFORE, unless something broke it's a loose card or loose cable.

*HD AUDIO is simply for the front audio jack. If you have desktop SPEAKERS they need to be connected to the proper output on the card. Usually the GREEN (or LINEOUT) if stereo speakers but you don't specify.

You may also need to select the AUDIO ICON (lower right), go to "Playback Devices" and make sure the sound card is selected as DEFAULT (can TEST there too). If you try to use ONBOARD AUDIO instead (must be on in the BIOS) then you would select the "REALTEK" solution instead.

Try different headphones or speakers as well.

Front panel HD Audio is not powered? Your front panel IO (USB, Headphone/Mic) are powered from the motherboard (which is powered via the 24pin ATX) and should not have any power connectors attached directly - although some cases may have a built-in fan hub, which would be powered via SATA or Molex.

Which soundcard do you have specifically? Most have either a SATA or Molex connector to provide additional power, over and above the PCI/PCIe power provided to it from the board (although some can operate just on the PCI/PCIe power).

Im using the ASUS Xonar_DG, its not even showing on playback devices which would mean its either broke or not getting power so you're probably right, i just can't remeber for the life of me what other cable plugged into it, if there even is one. It doesnt to have either SATA or Molex, it has other pin connections though callec 'AUX IN' and 'SPDIF OUT'

The only option i get when going on Playback devices is 'LG IPS FULLHD' which is my monitor, or AMD high definition audio device, which apparantly isn't plugged in.. could this mean the sound card is broken?
