Sound not working windows 7

So I finished putting together a computer yesterday, installed all my drivers, and the sound isn't working... I've tried multiple sound drivers, but still nothing. it is a used board, so maybe the ports don't work? it shows the headphones in devices, and says they are working. any help? (windows 7 ultimate x64 bit

What motherboard do you have? Quite important if you want any type of answer to that. You should just list all your specs while your at it.

Well do you have a Graphics card plugged into your monitor or are you using on-board graphics (HDMI plugged into motherboard slot)

Its a DP965LT Intel motherboard.

This below is the correct sound driver for your motherboard, is it the one you are using? Make sure you get the vista x64 version as they dont have a win 7 version, the vista one should still work.

that's the one i have installed, it appears to work, but it doesn't.

Well if it was installed properly it may be a compatibility issue with windows 7.

Which audio device is the audio using. Just rest the mouse pointer over the audio speaker icon and it should say.

You may not have your graphics cards audio set to default.

Make sure you've connected all of your little audio connectors correctly on your motherboard. You know the little jumper-like connectors for the power LED, Power switch, Reset switch on your case etc. There should be an audio one also. Refer to your mobo manual to find where it is for the integrated sound card.

I figured it out, i changed the audio device from headphones to speakers and that worked for some reason, thanks anyway guys.

At least it wasn't a more complicated fix.
