Sound Not Working

A couple of days ago out of nowhere my sound stopped working. The sound icon bottom right has a red cross and says "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". I've looked online and have found no way of fixing it. I've made sure drivers are up to date. When I click playback devices, it has four NVIDIA HDMI outputs but no headphones available. Help would be appreciated.

Does the soundcard appear in device manager? If it doesnt did someone disable audio in the BIOS?

Under Sound, video and game controllers is NVIDIA High Defintion Audio. The sound stopped working in the middle of me using computer, not after a restart or anything.

That maybe, or will be the HDMI audio not the onboard audio

I would check the BIOS and see if onboard sound is enabled. Doesnt sound like it is

Everything seems to be up to date and everything, but still no sound!

Did you check the BIOS tho to see if the audio was enabled?

If it's disabled you wont get sound. This maybe the reason because there is no sound devices in device manager. Besides HDMI. Which isnt onboard sound

Yes sound is enabled in BIOS.

Must be dead then. Or windows isnt detecting the onboard sound. There should be an entry for it in device manager.

In device manager there is NVIDIA High Definition Audio.

Like I said thats for HDMI. If you use an HDMI cable. It's not for onboard audio.

What then should be in device manager?

A name of a sound device, like Realtek.

And there should be more options under sounds. Like speakers, headphones, spdif, High definition audio
