Sound not working

the pc registers that the speakers are in but no sound comes out not even system sounds windows trouble shooter doesnt open ive tried restarting the computer and i tried disabling and reenabling the speakers but nothing has worked yet the speakers do work hooked up to a phone

1| Can you give us your full system's specs? Although you've posted this thread in the Windows 8 section, you're working with Windows 8 but it'd help to confirm for us. If this is a laptop, include the make/model/SKU.
2| Have you made sure your audio drivers are up to date?
