Sound popping on an old laptop while playing Euro Truck Simulator 2

After tinkering with the setup for a while now, I've found a way to make this old laptop play ETS2 decently: I`ve increased the Monitor's refresh rate from 60 to 75Mhz.

The problem now is that I've got sound popping/crackling. Why is it?

My rig:

-single core Celeron 2.2GHz

-3GB of RAM DDR3

-Intel Chipset Family 4 128MB shared graphics

Check for audio driver updates and any BIOS updates. If you are using a docking station, update those drivers too.
