My laptop has only 1 hole for headphones and my headphones have 2 jacks. So I bought that adapter something female to male or reverse Im not sure but when I plug all that in sound is broken. Music is louder and voices are quiet you cant even hear them. Is there a way to fix it or its bad adapter?

Solution
If you are not even sure about what you bought as an adapter it's pretty tough to figure out what the issue is.

There are a few 4 pole connection standards, the adapter you got may not be suitable for your laptop.

You can try this model https://www.cdw.com/shop/products/StarTech.com-4-Position-to-2x-3-Pin-3.5mm-Headset-Splitter-Adapter-White/3036596.aspx?cm_cat=GoogleBase&cm_ite=3036596&cm_pla=NA-NA-STP_CC&cm_ven=acquirgy&ef_id=WCCA4QAABXvt2Sd0:20161107174040:s&gclid=COHg6a2Yl9ACFcMkhgodG34FTA&s_kwcid=AL!4223!3!61836302419!!!g!18283950120!#PO it's a good quality one.
