sound problems; everything sounds 'underwater'

Hi... I'm having a problem with counter-strike - it's all of a sudden just
happened and it's very irritating! In day of defeat it seems to happen
regularly; but with cs it just started yesterday - drivers are up to date
and it just genuinly seems to happen randomly... wish i could solve it, it's
doing my nut in : |!

Have you accidentally set EAX environment to underwater? I set it to
chipmunk once I nearly pissed myself laughing.

It's OK I'm english so I get rhyming slang.

If you have a soundblaster sound card you can set environments within
the settings in control panels like concert hall or auditorium and
some weird ones like underwater other sound cards can do it too. Mine
got changed without my knowledge when I updated the drivers.

Could be a good thing to check out

Ar-har.... I see... good suggestion; but in fact the problem has resolved
itself. In day-of-defeatness-squish it still happens, but i don't play it
enough for it to bother me, i just quit zee game now.
