My Sound Properties is taking over 5 - 10 minutes for it to open. I can't open "Adjust system volume", "Change system sounds", "Manage audio devices". I go to the log and it show nothing. I just don't know what is having a grip or holding it.

When I boot up my computer and I only try as far as 30 minutes later, everything is still working fine. It is after some point that it just will not open right away.

I have VMware, use Logmein, a HD 7850 and HD 5450 video card and a Hauppague HVR 2250 TV card.

I stop Essentials AV and that didn't matter.

Anyone have any idea on how to troubleshoot this?

For the last 2 days now ...

If I *DONT* go to the Control Panel - Power - and tell its to turn *OFF* the monitor after x amount of minutes, my Sound Properties will always work.

Does this tell you anything?

Hi, I dont know if you have found a solution that works for you yet but Ill tell you what worked for me.
We both have amd/ati cards and i assume that you use the CCC drivers.
You probably have the HDMI audio driver that comes with the graphics card drivers installed, If you uninstall the HDMI audio driver through the "AMD Catalyst Install Manager" the sound panel should work instantly again :>
Hope this helps

I am having the same issue and have looked in the ccc and cant find in there anywhere to uninstall the hdmi audio driver can you please adivise where to look or instructions on how to

WHOA. No joke! This instantly fixed the issue!
I wonder if ATI/AMD is aware of this issue?

Navigate through Start > Control Panel. Under All Control Panel icons, select Programs and Features (assuming you're not viewing by Category, but you mainly want the Add/Remove Programs list). Select the AMD Catalyst Install Manager, alt-click, and Change. From here, select Uninstall Manager, do a custom uninstall, select the HDMI Audio driver, and voila.

I saw this issue and solution on a different forum and it worked for me.I have linked to the page i am speaking of below as well. If you go to the realtek website and then pc audio codecs then high definition audio codecs, then software there is one called "ATI HDMI Audio Device". Download and install this and your sound properties should open quickly again.

Realtek HD Audio Codecs

Not sure if this thread is too old to post a reply here but i just wanted to take the time to say thank you to trojan577 for the help. I did what he explained to do and my sound properties started opening instantly once again. Thank you so much! :)

trojan577 solution also works for me.

I have an analog Altec Lansing external speaker for daily use such as music and game. I also use Logitech USB headset that I use for work (video call, voip, etc). Previously my PC switch to headset automatically (speaker, microphone) if I plug the USB. After I re-install windows I found it doesn't like that anymore. It took forever to switch to USB headset, and also took forever to configure it manually via Sound in Control Panel.

I uninstalled AMD HDMI Sound driver as trojan577 said, and now it works like a charm.

Thank You!
