Sound Says Disabled- Will not Work

I recently got a new laptop and the sound stopped working, I read through some other peoples threads with the same problem and followed the instructions to go to device manager and delete some thing under sound and video controllers (I cannot remember exactly what it was called) it said it would restart my laptop which it did and that when it turned back on a pop up would come up asking about the sound. When it came back on the pop up did not come up and now my sound says it's disabled. I went back to device manager and anything even related to sound was gone. I tried trouble shooting and it pretty much told me there was a problem and gave me no options to fix it. Is there something I did wrong? And can I fix it?
