Sound Trouble with Windows (rear speaker sound coming from front)

Hi all!

I am using HDMI to output sound from my computer to my surround sound system. Windows is configured to output 5.1 sound but when I test it (with the built in Windows utility or through a game etc) the sound that should come from the rear speakers comes out of the front speakers (left rear to left front etc).

The front left, front right, center, and sub all work properly when tested via the utility.

The reason I think this might be an issue with Windows is because I have tried it on two completely different computers and on two completely different 5.1 surround sound systems.

I am running audio out of my graphics card (tested on an HD 7970 and an RX 470) through a Monster HDMI cable to a Pioneer Receiver with Bose speakers as well as a Vizio SB4551-D5 surround sound system.

Anyone know a solution?

Thanks!

Can you please post the summary page from https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download. That will show us the motherboard which can possibly handle 5.1 audio. It will also show us what type of audio you have.

I'm not sure what you want me to do with that link... I'm not in the mood to buy software but I can tell you the specs since I built the PC.

Motherboard is:GA-990FXA-UD3

I had the audio coming from my motherboards optical out originally but as I stated I am running audio through my graphics card (hd 7970) at this time.

Please let me know if there is more information you need

Always pick the free one :). I wasn't suggesting you buy that. I was expecting you to download it, run it and post a pic or C+P of the summary page. Still missing the audio type that delivers the audio from the card. The board uses Realtek ALC889. One option is to use the integrated sound which is prepared for 5.1 audio. Even my MSI Z97 board with audio in, out and mic can be set for 5.1 audio, which it is on a Logitech 5.1 audio speaker set. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/433076/Gigabyte-Ga-990fxa-Ud3.html?page=95

Is that a possibility?

Ahh, I missed the free version. Sorry 😳 Do you still need my specs?

You're missing the audio type? What do you mean? The source that I'm trying to play?

I'm trying to set my PC up with my VIZIO Soundbar which basically only has has optical, coaxial, and hdmi audio inputs.

I'd contact Vizio 1 (855) 833-3221/ https://support.vizio.com/s/contact-us?language=en_US because you are dealing with their product. The Pioneer system was also in the picture. SOrry for the confusion. I have one of their(Vizio) TVs with a 5.1 audio system hooked up. I did have a video issue which they helped me with.

I run my HDMI cable to the Vizio TV and the audio cables to the subwoofer which then doles it out to the rest of the speakers.

The oddity is Windows has it right but games have it wrong that means that the cables are right.

Have you tired old faithful? Uninstall and reinstall your Crimson driver for that card?

I do have an option to switch audio outputs(such as suwoofer to center and center to sub) in my Realtek sound manager. However if AMD's sound device was configured in the wrong way Windows' test would also play back "the wrong way". Windows can also change speaker settings such as switch left and right(Reverse Stereo) but that isn't the case. It all falls back on " The front left, front right, center, and sub all work properly when tested via the utility.".

Hmm well I suppose it's worth a shot.

EDIT: No Luck 🙁 I'm going to try VIZIO's support
