Soundblaster Emulator.

I'm trying to run a game that requires a Soundblaster card, and I have
a Soundblaster Emulator, but when I run it, it keeps on saying that the
computer is in protected mode. Now I know that the computer is not in
protected mode, but DOS might be. Do you know how to solve the problem,
IE, turn protected mode off?

Will those play sound for games requiring Soundblaster? I'm looking to
use Megazeux or a Turbo Graphics 16 emulator, and those only have sound
with soundblaster. I'm using Windows XP right now.

How do DosBox and VDMSound work? Are they merely sound players or can
you play the game with them? I can't seem to get mine to work.

The DosBox is too complicated. I want something that will just out and
out let you use sound for tg16. The DosBox doesn't even work! What am I
supposed to do?

Something's wrong with the game. The sceen's all black. The guide
doesn't seem to be working.

The soundblaster seems to require DGSPEECH.INI. Where do I get it?

Okay, I solved the other problem, but the frame rate is SO slow, and
speeding up the game seems to do next to nothing.

I'm running HU6280. If I run it under windows, it goes rather quickly,
but if I run it under DOS, it goes too slow. I don't understand. And
what do you mean by system specs? I don't know them. It's not my
computer. I'm sorta "borrowing" it.

And yes, I'm the one who wanted to write a game featuring product
placement. The game is called Upheaval.

What game is this and what system are you trying to
run it on? If you have Win 2000 or XP you might be better
off using VDMSound or DOSBox to run the game.

I usually use F1 for the speed. The sound, though, I still couldn't get
to work. Do I have to use the soundblaster thing along with regular dos?

DosBos emulates an operating system in its entirty, thus allowing ygames to
run without any interference from the underlying system. However, it's
nature causes the games to run much more slowly - not that it matters since
most games released around that time either don't need much processing
power or have been replaced with a Windows port.

VDMSound replaces the SoundBlaster emulation of Windows XP, thus allowing
old Dos games to play sound without problem. (There are Dos games where
sound plays properly under WinXP, such as System Shock, but these are an
exception.)

Can you describe the problem in more detail? Important information
include the game that you are trying to play, along with the procedure you
used in an attempt to play it.

Yes. You can find a compatibility list for DOSBox here
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/comp_list.php?letter=a

Note that if the name of a game starts with the word The,
you may find the game listed under T.

Some emulators may not work. I've found the VDMSound works for almost
anything though. A few I have tried didn't work with it. I have never tried
DosBox. I recommend giving VDMSound a try for sure, it's free. I'm not sure
of the fees if any of DosBox.

DOSBox is free too.
There's a guide here

Dosbox I believe is a DOS emulator that runs under XP. I am pretty sure
that VDMSound is also sort of a DOS emulator of sorts but it really only
does sound emulation.

I can't speak for Dosbox because i haven't used it.

But for VDMSound, what it does is that it loads a driver that emulates the
soundcard and then it loads your game under that, and the game can see the
driver as if it were talking to a 'soundblaster' (or it supports emulating
other types of popular DOS sound cards).

What emulator are you trying to run? Links?

Also what are your system specs?

Riiiight.

Do you know how to program? What languages? What experience do you have
programming?

BTW, I'm off to try and find that emulator and see if I can get it running
with sound.

If you install VDMSound, you can create an icon that will run the VDM
driver and then load the emulator.

I'm not working this out, sorry. That emulator is a piece of garbage.
Besides, I don't even like the TG16. :)

Aren't you the guy who wanted to write a game featuring product placement?

Does anybody know any button for DosBox for SETTING the emulator to
overclocked speeds rather than waiting al that time to keep on using
F-12 and F-8?
