so i just got myself a ASUS maximus X Hero
the MoBo i had before was a pretty bad onboard sound, so i got myself an sound blaster Z.
But this was some years ago, i dont know how the technology have improved.
Should i use the onboard instead or should i keep using the sound card?
the headset i'm using is beyerdynamic 990 pro 250 Ohm

Solution
You already have the board. Try it first, you can always add a sound card later if you don't like on-board audio. I haven't bothered buying sound cards for my last two PCs but what sounds good enough for me isn't necessarily good enough for you.

I would try onboard sound first.
Doing some reading, I think the modern motherboard sound chips are similar to what you have in your discrete sound card.

Add in sound cards are notorious for driver conflict issues.

Try onboard sound first.

If you really want a true comparison, you have the wherewithal to try your old card and compare.
