This seemed to be the most appropriate location for this question:

If I want to build custom computing solutions that are based upon Windows XP and up, how do I keep from going bankrupt because I have to purchase an operating system for each system I build?

Is there a "smarter" way to source the OS from M$ to save on the unit cost? If I build system, I want to just image each system hard drive with a basic configuration, including the o/s. I don't want to have to go through the complete process of unwapping the software, installing it, activating it, etc. with every single system, do I?

Or has anyone found a suitable open source challenger to Windows? (OK, different discussion, I know! )

Thanks. :?

Ummm, sounsd like you want some kind of bulk-licensing thingy. Talk to your local wholesaler (i'll assume that if you're building a lot of machines, you're a business and have wholesale accounts paying retail is silly for multiple machines).

As for the installing, as far as i know (which, admittedly, isn't much when it comes to XP), Yes. install win once, clone the harddisk, then you'll just have to type in multiple license thingies. (i'm pretty sure that you'll have to have identical components in each computer to do this)

Multiple licensing is what you want. You should be able to get windoze for about half the cost if you could find it wholesale. Good luck.

Whole sale.. but it'll still cost you.

How about you build that cost into your computer and do business like a business?

Look for OEM copies too. Those generally are cheaper and can be bought whole sale.
