sp2 & corrupt boot ini

I tried to install sp2 from a cd,it got halfway through and refused to
install,saying the system was unstable,then recomended uninstalling,which I
did.
Now the boot ini file is corrupt and I cannot use the xp cd to repair and it
won't let me install the recovery console to repair it,can someone please
suggest something other than a complete reinstall.Thanks

Why can't you use the Recovery Console to repair the boot.ini? If you
have a WinXP CD then set the cdrom to first boot
device in Bios and you should be able to access the RC. If you need
