I made a clean install of win2k using an integrated sp2 install disk i made. Before I did this I was running with every update prior to sp2. But now a lot more programs crash or simply wont run at all. I thought sp2 was just a compilation of all the updates previous to its release; if so, then why the sudden incompatibility. I did try all the updates since sp2 but nothin is helping.
Win2k Pro
Asus A7V bios 1007
Via 4-in-1 4.31
ATi Radeon driver 3025

eh, i'll procrastinate later...

I have no problems at all with my config :

Win2k pro SP2 (switched ACPI for standard pc to be able to specify my own IRQ's)
ASUS K7V BIOS 1007
VIA 4-1 4.31
Nvidia Detonator 3 ver.6.50 for my 3D Prophet

ditto to the other guy... only one onrunning windows 2000 problem, with or without the sp2, and since installing sp2, two pre-sp2 problems have been cured,
namely the blue screen of death when alt+tabbing out of games to windows and the other was a baldurs gate2 + sound confict slowdown.

*shrug* maybe your system is just allergic to sp2.

This behavior must not continue! Feel the BURNING STARE of my HAMSTER... and change your ways!

arg, now nero wont run. it says it needs the original wnaspi32.dll. the one of the nero site wont work either. this sucks!!

sp2 is working just fine for my a7v133. Sounds like you have the common windows problem.....3 R's should clear everything up, so start backing up now while you can still access the machine.

Good ole' msft.

I've been getting constant Explorer crashes since SP2. I even formatted and put a fresh install on and as soon as I dl'd SP2 it started all over again. The machine can no longer multi-task. If I have 2 windows open with a lot of files to be scanned, the windows crash. If I run a program that scans for images in more than one folder at a time, crash. ARGH!!!

1. Have all your drivers handy...
2. Go in Hardware manager and under "Computer" display properties for "ACPI compliant blah blah blah...", "Driver" Tab, "Update driver", choose "Standard PC".
3. Go into BIOS, specify a "Non-PNP OS" and deactivate all energy saving features. Specify different IRQ's for your PCI devices.
4. Reboot in windows, it will automatictly reinstall all your devices, you'll maybe have to give him some drivers.

and voila!

me too. i think im gonna reinstall windows again (even though i JUST did it). this sucks, w2k worked perfectly until i installed sp2. go figure.

I've got a sinking feeling that you are right...

My system ran just fine before SP2. Now I get quite a few crashes when I try to alt-tab out of direct3d games, or even when I simply play them (Diablo II)

Perhaps I will reformat and not install it.

Freakin Microsoft. Argh!!! The only SP I can download is SP2. I want to reinstall but my Win2k disc is Pre SP1 so basically I'm screwed. 😡
