If i were you, I'd uninstall it. It exists in control-panel \
add-remove-programs, so you should be able to un-install it. Right after
uninstalling, make sure you turn on SP1's firewall, or make sure if you
havew a 3rd party firewall, that it is working and is turned on.
Next, I might order the free CD from Microsoft, and install it again from
there, insteal of from online.
But before installing SP2 again, I would take precautions this time. You
waited so long to install it, that now the postings that gave a few tips
on installing it might not be floating around this newsgroup amymore.
Here is something I saved I wrote out. about installing SP2, the concepts
gathered from other posts at the time. I waited about 5 weeks after it's
release to install. Perhaps others have something to add or update about
this, as it has been a while. (SP2 has worked just great, and my computer
actually seems at leat to be more stable than before):

Consider ordering the free update CD of SP2. Even the shipping is free,
I got a free update CD from them earlier this year, and I just ordered
this one. But I have already installed from online. To order the free
CD:

I've been told, and it worked for me:
Right before you try again to install, best to be safer than sorry.
1) In Internet Explorer, delete "cookies, "temp files", and "history".
2) turn off your antivirus software.
3) disable your 3rd party firewall. So if you are going to install it from
online, make sure you enable XP's built-in firewall after disabling the
3rd party one.
4) problems have been reported because of poorly written adware
andspyware. So run Adaware right before installiing. Run any other
anti-spyware programs you have.
