My hp dv9925nr originally had vista but 7 has been installed. My speaker stopped. Speaker icon (has red X) it says "NO audio output device is installed". Update driver says "No drivers installed". Trouble shooter says everything is hunky-dory. Sound card? How do I install driver and from where? For free.
Thanks

Looks like there are 2 different drivers on the website, Hard to say which one you need but you can try installing one of them if it doesnt work download and install the other one.

Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver

Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver:

There are only for Windows Vista, if you have any issues try changing the compatibility to windows vista (right click the driver icon - Properties - Compatibility - Run this program in compatibility mode - change it to...
According to the HP website, they never released drivers for windows 7. You can try the vista drivers to see if they will work.

Here's the link to the drivers
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3740568&

To Install them hold windows key + R. This will bring up command prompt.
Type 'mmc devmgmt.msc'. The device manager should come up.
Right click on your sound device and click "update drivers".
Click "Browse my computer for driver software" and then select where you downloaded the files.

If it works you are good to go.

If not, it looks like you are not going to get sound on windows 7
