Speaker Sound Issues

I have a set of Bose companion 2 speakers that plug directly into headphone port on my custom built computer. I have had them for roughly 2 years and over the last few days there have been instances where they will make a static sound or just stop for a second or 2.

The speakers have been tested with other equipment e.g. my phone and appears to be work fine.

Wondering if someone has any suggestions as to what could be causing these sound issues when being used with the computer.

It may be your onboard audio or dedicated sound card if you have one acting up. Try updating your audio drivers. Here are links to some of the most common manufacturers.
