Speaker surround repair

I recently found a really good pair of speakers, but the surround on the speakers has dry rotted. Is there any DIY solutions to the problem, i picked them up for free, so i dont want to take them to a repair shop and spend a lot of money to get a professional fix.

What speakers are they? It is probably foam surround, since they are cheap(most good quality speaker makers don't use foam) to make and do rot after a while. Cost wise it depends on how many drivers you need to re-foam but figure about $5-25.00 per driver if you do it yourself. I'm assuming it is the woofer since they go out first.

IF they a really good quality speakers, it will be worth it, if not not maybe ebay them.

They had foam surround and they had dry rotted after about 20 years, i just have to repair one driver, how would you do that? They're a $500 pair of speakers bought in early 90's, my home's last owner left them there because the surround was out, i just want them to work because it would be nice to get the home surround system to work for under $50

The company doesn't exist anymore, closed in the mid-90's, and i couldn't find much on the web, the back says Norman Laboratories, Model 52. I have 2, one has no surround, the other's is cracked just a little, but the one with surround still one still sounds pretty good, better than the samsung woofer my dad has.

Hmm, Norman Labs of Oklahoma?

I would suggest audiokarma or DiyAudio.com for more info for speaker repair but the model 52 I found uses a 6.5" woofer, as long as it is a standard size in terms of the surround a generic surround might work.

BTW, found a ton of info on Norman Labs.

Like I said, I would post on audioKarma and diyaudio.com since they have threads about Norman labs but not so much about the model 52. You can search around for 6.5" surrounds but some generic ones may not work. So you might want something more specific in terms of finding out what particular driver it uses.

It looks like the model 52 is a later model after the company got bought by Gail Dixon(Not sure though). The early models like 7-11s go for some decent money if you want to sell.

Their is a video on that site I linked to but hard to say if the have the right parts but will give you a general idea on how to do it.
