Is it possible to get music from laptop to play on conventional wired speakers?

Yes. Just plug the speaker's 3.5mm jack to the audio out socket of your laptop.

The speakers need to be powered or you will only get a very very low sound out of them. You can run them off a regular amplifier though, and use the aux in of the amp to connect it to the laptop. You can get a mini plug to RCA jack converters in many places.
