[SOLVED] Speakers changing volume erratically

Hi all,

Dunno if this is the best place to post this but what the hell. I've been having sound issues for a while on my PC. Volume output will jump from normal to like 200% to 5% to 100% to 30% and the like. The windows sound level is set to 100%, it is just the output from the speakers that is changing.

I updated my drivers, no luck. I changed my drivers from the onboard Realtek to the windows ones, nope. I bought a creative sound card, still having the issues.

Interestingly, my Arctis7 headphones don't have the issue so I'm thinking it might be just the speakers that are causing the issue now? Is that a reasonable deduction? Or can it be something else?

Speakers are Logitech X-540s, and my mobo is a Asrock Z270 taichi.

Thanks everyone.

This appears to be a known problem. Unfortunately, while Logitech is aware of the problem, they have not put out a formal fix for it. The problem appears to be caused by a faulty potentiometer which is used to control the volume. This component is connected to the volume knob.

If you have prior knowledge and skills with electronics, you could attempt to clean the pot or replace it with a similar one. This should fix the problem.

A bypass option that some users were able to get by with was to use the volume knob >50%. You will have to decrease the volume from the source to compensate the increase or else it will be too loud.

Thanks! Disassembled the puck and tried my best to clean it. Seems to have slightly helped but not completely. Not willing to really replace the potentiometer, looks like I'm gonna just grab a new speaker system. Shame this couldn't have been a replaceable/pluggable item into the subwoofer. Razer leviathan here we go.
