Speakers Logitech Z313, Creative A250 or T10?

Thanks for your message Chugalug_

Can I ask why the T10s are best for desktop use?

I was comparing specs, and the Logitech Z313 speakers are 25 Watt (10W total for the satellite speakers and 15W for the subwoofer) whereas the T10 is 10W total. Also, the frequency response for the Z313 is 48-20000 Hz, whereas the T10 is 80-20000 Hz. Plus the Z313 has a separate subwoofer. What do you think about these specs?

Thanks again!

Thanks Chugalug_

Yes, I read a couple of reviews today that mentioned the Z313s are lacking in sound.

So, I'm either going with the Creative T10 or I might splash out and go with Logitech Z623 (not on my original list)...

Any thoughts on the Logitech Z623? (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-2-1-Speaker-System-Z623/dp/B00413BI7Q)

Thanks again and hope you have a nice weekend!

Check out the Edifier speakers, they have consistent good reviews. The higher Logitech THX rated speakers are also very good.
If you want a pure musical sound, maybe some studio monitor type speakers like Mackie or M Audio speakers. Those are more like standard stereo speakers more than PC speakers because of the size, but they have a good pure even sound. I have a $400 set of Logitech 4.1 speakers that are like 15 years old and a set of M Audio AV 30 speakers, both are very good, in their own way. The M Audio set does a good job with a computer, TV, even used them for speakers for a $1,000 electric piano and they had good sound for that use also.

Thanks for your really helpful reply, hang-the-9

I was looking at Edifier R1280T, along with Mackie CR3 and M-Audio AV32 (the brands you mentioned). How would these compare with the THX Logitech Z623 speakers? I'm not looking for really loud, bassy sound, just high quality and precise sound (for beginner-intermediate video editing, and some leisure/entertainment use). Also, would the Edifier, Mackie and M-Audio speakers connect to my laptop the same way as computer speakers (i.e. the Logitech speakers) or do they require a special port/connection?

The thing is, my desk space is only 46 cm (depth) x 76 cm (width) (18 inches x 30 inches), and I would need to fit my 24 inch monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers in this space. So, would the studio/stereo speakers be suitable for that space? I presume I would need the speakers on my desk facing me or could another arrangement work? The thing I like with the Logitech Z623 system is that the satellite speakers are pretty small (good for my desk space) and I guess I can just place the subwoofer on the floor next to my desk...

Any advice much appreciated!
Thanks again and hope you have a nice weekend

All of those will connect to a computer the same way, although you may need to get a 3.5mm to RCA adapter for some of the speakers. Look and see what connections they have. For music and mixing, the studio speakers are best, that is what they are made for. For rock, maybe some movie effects, the ones with the sub like the 2.1 or 5.1 Logitech THX systems are better. It's a bit tough to say what is best for you, but sounds like you may like the studio monitors better. If I had to pick between only one set, I'd take the M Audio ones because I heard several and liked them all. They also have a good number of connections and a clean amp.

For the space, you can see the specs on all of them, you may want to get a paper and cut out the size of the speaker on it, that way you can place it on the desk and see how the space is. You may also be able to get some speaker mounts and put them on the side of the desk or mount something to the desk like https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1JH53A8764&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC-_-pla-_-Speakers-_-9SIA1JH53A8764&gclid=Cj0KEQiAxeTFBRCGmIq_7rGt_r8BEiQANdPqUhalMlH_YMgpyw-QthiQWmO2ZFikVWuN7pSL00R16bsaAnep8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds or something like this https://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Heavy-Tablet-Treadmills-Galaxy/dp/B0072LASLQ You can find several cheaper ones, just some ideas.

Thanks hang-the-9

I'm finding it challenging choosing between the Edifier R1280T (which are very highly rated on Amazon) and M-Audio AV32. The Edifier product has some nice controls (e.g. can adjust treble and bass) and design (http://www.edifier.com/int/en/speakers/studio-1280t-2.0-powered-bookshelf).

I noticed that the Edifier speakers have some kind of paper/fabric for the cone in the bass driver... is this a good material? I've seen that a lot of other speakers have plastic/polypropylene (like the M-Audio). Any thoughts on this?

I'll cut out the paper like you said and get a feel for the size of the speakers!

UPDATE: Just measured things on my desk and the stereo speakers (M-Audio etc) don't fit next to (i.e. one speaker on each side) of my monitor... are there any other options besides having them on my desk at the same level as my head? Perhaps I will have to go with compact (PC) speakers? Hmm...

Thanks Chugalug_!

I think I will need to go with compact speakers as I don't have much desk space (I measured things up last night)... I guess the good thing with the Z623s is that the satellite speakers are fairly small so I can place them on my desk and the subwoofer can just go on the floor nearby.

Are the Z623s worth the money (especially for my use with general entertainment and light video editing)? I could go with Creative GigaWorks T20 Series II otherwise (which are half the price).

Any additional advice much appreciated! Thanks and enjoy your weekend

Thanks again Chugalug_!

Just one last question if I may... I was also thinking about going with the studio monitor speakers Edifier R1280T (http://www.edifier.com/int/en/speakers/studio-1280t-2.0-powered-bookshelf) and was wondering how you think they would compare with the Logitech Z623s (which from what I can see are PC speakers)?

Thanks Chugalug_!

One thing I've heard about the Z623 speakers is that everything is hardwired so if you have problems with either the satellite speakers or the subwoofer then it's not easy to fix things... is this right?

I think I'm going with either the T10s or Z623. Probably the T10s to start off with, and then upgrade later to the Z623 🙂

That makes sense, thanks again Chugalug_ 🙂
