Speakers Make Grinding Noise

My speakers make a weird grinding sound when listening to music, watching videos, or playing games, it's not very consistent (I could go 30 min without hearing it once but other times it is every 2 seconds), however when I plug my phone into the speakers, there is no grinding noise what so ever. I want to say it started when I upgraded to Windows 10 but I am not exactly sure about that.

Things I have already checked and tried:

  • Updated Drivers
    Purchased a standalone sound card
    Disabled "Enhancements"
The issue still persists after trying these things. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

My Build if it is relevant:

  • NZXT Phantom 820
    ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z
    AMD FX-8350
    G.Skill Ripjaws X Series (2x8GB)
    EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB
    RoseWill RNX N250PCe
Windows 10 (was originally Win 8.1)
    Speakers: BOSE Companion 20
Thanks in advance!

Hello... 6) TOS link is the " trade name" of the fiber connection.... Check your Realtek app for the different Digital output settings for that connection.
Hello... if the Speaker coil/wires get too much energy, they will melt the wire insulation, and create annoying sound. Typically the Speaker has been "Blown"... OR the mechanical AIR Gap between the magnet and speaker coil windings is not correct. To test a speaker cone... you can push the cone, with slight even pressure, and listen for the Coil winding rubbing against the magnet. If your speaker has this problem, it needs to be "re-coned' or replaced.

Agree with this, its the only cause I know of for a grinding or gritty noise. If correct there is no fix, the speaker is damaged

This is not the case, as per my post above these speakers work fine with my phone, additionally they work with my CD player, Ipod, and TV. I just tried to plug my soundbar (from my TV) into the Digital Output (Fiber Optic cable) and it does the exact same thing. This is an issue internally with the computer, I just don't know what.

Maybe helped a little but, I just purchased Turtle Beach Headphones to try on the front port and it also makes the grinding noise. I have also uninstalled/reinstalled Realtek, that has not changed it. I have tested all internal cabling tightness, removed the Sound card, and it's software.

I am using Fiber Optic on the sound bar (right now as of this post). Typically I use a 3.5mm audio cable it is the only thing that works with the BOSE speakers. The Turtle beach's had a 2.5mm to 3.5mm.

Hello... 3) How is the Sound Bar powered up? maybe there is a ground loop or "out of phase" being created... switch the Power prongs on the"Wall wart" to the Sound Bar 180 degs in the outlet.
4) If you move the sound bar placement does it reduce or stop the noise?
5)Try a different fiber cable?
6) check the Realtek APP TOS LINK setting and different output bit/freq.
7) Can you TEST the same connection and Sound bar in another/friends REALTEK MB? (test your MB).

3) I have tried having the Sound Bar and Speakers plugged into a surge protector and directly to the wall. The cable that came with the Sound Bar (is a normal 2 prong) and the BOSE Speakers (have power supply similar to a laptop), neither device have "wall warts"

4) Moving them around seems to make it worse.

5) I don't have an extra fiber optic cable readily available, I have tried flipping it around but that doesn't seem to help. (I have tried 2 different 3.5mm cables for the BOSE)

6) I am not 100% on what you mean by Realtek APP TOS LINK. (please clarify)

7)I have tried my laptop and it does okay with the speakers (can't test the sound bar, it doesn't have a Fiber Optic output)

Too add additional clarification, I don't typically use the Sound Bar on the computer, I was just using it to see if it happened to be the 3.5mm cables or the I/O port, this Fiber Optic cable and Sound Bar work perfectly fine with my TV.

Again thanks for your help!
