Speakers playing too loudly

Hey there, I've been having issues with my speakers lately. They seem to auto adjust in volume and they play EXTREMELY loud even when the volume knob is turned down all the way(but the speakers are on).

I can easily just adjust the volume level through the speakers volume in windows, but I really want to figure out what the issue is and if I can somehow fix this because I am in love with these speakers (logitech z506 5.1).

Problem: Speakers playing too loud and adjust in volume by themselves even when knob turned fully to the left (should be muted at that point)

It sounds like (no pun intended) a defect in the speakers, not the software. There's more than one possibility but my first suspect would be that the soldering on the volume control pins has come loose. I suggest you take it to someone with a good background in practical electronics.
