Hello, I'm planning to build a high-end system for a friend as a gift. (he's helped me heaps in the past so it's my way of saying thank you)
Total cost for the system is around US$2300-$2700 for PC only, he can use existing monitor with the new PC or I'll recommend him a monitor to go with PC for him to buy.
(That's my plan atm, but guess I can also buy him the monitor by spending less on the parts or increasing my budget)

He'll mainly use the PC for MS Office and browsing the net and maybe occasional games(latest Call of Duty).
So I know that he doesn't really need high-end PC, but I still want to get him something nice and hopefully high-end PC will last him bit longer. Also I'm hoping he'll think "wow, this must be good" or "this looks really nice" etc.
That's why I rather get him i9 11900K over i7 10700K when I know 10700K would be good enough and he won't benefit or even notice any difference when he's using the PC with 11900K.

I probably won't be build the system for another ~6 months(?) but I'd probably go for something if I had to build it today:
CPU: Intel i9 11900K or 11900
HSF: Noctua NH-U12A or NH-D15
M/B: Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite AX or Z590 Aorus Ultra
GPU: EVGA RTX3060Ti FTW3 Ultra or maybe 3070 or 3060
RAM: 32GB(4x 8GB) G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600C19 or similar
SSD: 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 or similar
Case: CoolerMaster H500 or Lian Li Lancool 215 Mesh
PSU: Corsair HX850 or Corsair RM850x

Just like any system build, each component need to be reasonable price to fit within the total budget, but this build is very flexible because there really isn't any set requirement.
I think only requirement = need to run very quite all the time, not too heavy(lighter the better, ideally under 20kg), not too large(standard ATX sized case is fine), and fast enough for occasional games(CoD at 1440p).
That's why I asked "Any case worth spending $300-$400?" on the title, because I thought maybe buying expensive(by spending less on other parts) might not be a bad idea in this case.

Solution
Looking at his uses I'd run that build this way. The case in this build has won more awards than I can count and as far as RAM goes it doesn't get any better than Crucial Ballistix.

Turn off the power limits in the bios and you're off to the races.

As I said probably won't build the system for another ~6 months, but not 100% at this stage.
I have 3 parts that can be used for his PC atm(i9 11900K, MSI Z490 Gaming Carbon, 2x 16GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600C16) but probably better to sell them because 12th gen might become available in 6 months from now, and that would be best option if I want his PC to last long as possible.
Please let me know if you have any advice/suggestion for the system and parts, if I have to build it in next 2-3 weeks(and if I didn't have any spare parts) then I'd probably go for:
CPU: Intel i9 11900 or 11900K (but I'll try to get used cos used one should last long as new one)
HSF: Noctua NH-U12A or NH-D15 (guess used is also fine if it's in gg condition)
M/B: Must have Wifi, cheaper the better but must be durable/stable
- Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite AX(if it's got good VRM) or Z590 Aorus Ultra(if Elite AX isn't good), I'll have to do lil bit of research for cheapest new durable mobo with wifi, Z490 model is fine if it's much cheaper, but I'll only get new mobo to avoid any risk.
GPU: I think ~3060Ti performance should be fast enough, must runs quite and cool so good model only
- lol probably very hard to get new GPU within 2-3 weeks, so used ~3060Ti performance card in good model..
RAM: Must have RGB for TG side panel, any speed is fine, 4x 8GB = better cos more RGB
SSD: Must 2TB but 2x 1TB is okay too, must be durable/reliable. ~970 EVO+ performance should be fine
- around month ago I was gonna use my old 10900KF for his PC, but then I bought used 11900K for cheap so sold the 10900KF.. so I thought I'd get him fast 2TB Gen4 SSD for him, but change the plan cos don't think he'd benefit or notice the difference between 7000MB/s read vs 3500MB/s.. and yes, he also won't benefit from 11900K over 10900KF, but at least I can tell him it's the latest Intel i9.. lol?
Case: ???
PSU: ~850W, must be reliable, I think all good PSU come with long warranty and also very quite
LED: 32" Samsung G5, 49" Samsung CRG9 or Two 27" or 32" Samsung G5

PC hardware's been my interest/hobby for a long time and I know enough so guess I'm mainly interested in suggestion for some cool, unique, fancy case..
I don't mind going for ITX or MicroATX, the case doesn't need to have TG panel, but I don't want to use any heavy or large case. (also not interested in any case with bad thermal or poor HSF/GPU compatibility)

ITX case like Lian Li PC-TU150 would be fine, cos it can still take large heatsink/GPU without any issue and I don't mind using ITX mobo or 750W SFX-L PSU.
Sliger Cerberus X is also fine, if I can still get Noctua NH-C14S from Newegg.. I wouldn't use cases like Dan A4-SFX case due to very poor HSF/GPU compatibility.
But TU150 or Cerberus X doesn't really offer benefit(over CM H500 or LL 215) other than being smaller/lighter imo.

He might like Gigabyte Aorus C700 or Thermaltake AH T200 since they look different, but C700 is too big and T200 looks fragile and probably get dirty/dusty inside the case much easier.

If I ever spend $400 on a computer case, I want it to be bullet-proof :D
It's just an idea.. since it's possible to spend $400 on a case for this build, and I think some people might really like some unique looking PC case cos they don't know and care about the components inside.
Personally I'd pick CoolerMaster H500 or Lian Li Lancool 215 even for high-end build, I'd only go for expensive cases if I really wanted to build small ATX or ITX case using Cerberus X or Dan A4 etc.

Hey Why_Me, thanks for the input and I'll look into the parts you suggested..

sigh... lol I don't know, maybe I should wait til I can actually build for PC for him then decide, maybe also better ask him for his preference on case etc.
He doesn't know I'm gonna build him a new PC atm, but it doesn't have to surprise and I was maybe thinking of getting him to build the whole PC himself cos that way he might enjoy/appreciate it more.
I'll provide detailed instructions on the spot so should be easy and shouldn't take too long, but he's very busy so I'll have to ask first. & maybe average person wouldn't want to learn and build their own PC even if it only takes 20mins and they have plenty of time i guess.
Maybe just buying him the monitor(49" Samsung CRG9 or two 27"/32" Samsung G5) to go with the PC is the best idea..

Think I'll probably go for Sliger Cerberus X case(Matte White with TG side panel and handle) and Nocuta NH-C14S.
Cerberus X doesn't look fancy or unique but it's high quality case, and very small and light for ATX.
I can still use ATX mobo, and don't think stock 11900K would have any thermal issues with NH-C14S.
