Speccy versus Crystal Mark data: Pending Sector Count

One of my data drives is a WD Caviar Black 2 TB. I use it as one of my primary data drives.

I'm puzzled by the data shown in CrystalDisk (where it rates a "Caution") versus Speccy (where it rates a "Good").

Note: I run two automated backups on a schedule so data loss or replacing this drive is not a major concern. If it's dying I'll retire it. It has 16,076 hours or mileage (about 3.5 years).

  • If I relied entirely on Speccy I'd go happily on my way.

If I relied strictly on CrystalDisk, I'd sleep even less than I do.:ouch:

They both report the current and worst as "200." CrystalDisk indicates the raw value for this line as 000000000006. (I have no idea what this means.)

But does this pending sector count data really warrant a "caution"?

I think you will be fine as long as you keep a regular backup of your most important files you can run the risk of running the hard drive. I would be more concerned if both programmes indicated a problem with the hard drive

Thanks, John.

I've been a dedicated advocates for a long time, so the data's not a bug concern. I did run Western Digital and Dell diagnostics and both gave it a clean bill of health, as did HD Tune. I guess I'll just disregard CrystalDisk in this case.
