In my i7 HP (h8-1260t with 16gb RAM and a 500 gb SSD boot drive and a 1tb secondary drive), I want/need to replace the 500 gb SSD with a 1tb SSD. Are there special system demand when upgrading to a 1tb SSD? Or, is the fact that it works with the 500 mean it is just a matter of doing the proper data transfer and replacement?

You can safely ignore the information provided you by the HP rep. There should be no problem cloning the contents of your current 500 GB SSD to a new 1 TB SSD. Casper's disk-to-disk cloning operation will utilize the entire available disk-space of the destination drive to contain the total contents of the 500 GB source drive. That's the default setting. As you probably know, you can manipulate the size of the destination drive's partition during the Casper disk-cloning operation should you so desire. But I assume you will be satisfied with the default setting.

It's generally a good idea that following the d-c operation you connect the new boot drive to the motherboard's first SATA port (connector) probably designated SATA1. Presumably...

I don't see a problem with that. as long as you stay sata. Put the new drive in. Clone it over and then expand the partition on the new drive. Provided you are using sata now that is.

I use the Casper system (8.0), and it is all set for the procedure of cloning, including adjusting for a larger size drive replacement.. My concern was because I was pricing out a newer i7 system and noticed that they only offered a 250 or 500 gb SSD. I spoke with the "chat" specialist" asking if I could use my 1tb SSD in that box. I was informed that their system (which is 3 years newer than mine but with a similar intel i7 chip) was only set up to handle up to a 500 gb SSD. I wanted to be sure that by cloning my current system boot drive from the 500 to the 1tb SSD I wouldn't be violating some limit to the hardware/bios that would prevent it working in my current system.

It is, of course, possible that the "specialist" was not aware, so I wanted more input before I went ahead., Thanks for any advice you might offer.

Presumably that will be the same port to which your current boot drive is connected. Upon bootup with the new boot drive it's a good idea to check the BIOS to ensure the new boot drive is first in boot priority order.

P.S.
Are you aware that Casper has recently released an upgrade to Casper 8? The new version has been designated Casper 10.
