First off, I'm new here, so hello all! :)

I've got a specific question that's been irking me lately. After reading through old THG articles and forum posts and such, I still can't answer it.

Basically, I want to know which of the following is better for 3d gaming and the like, and why (prices from newegg.com):

Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9600 XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8x AGP - Retail: $141

ASUS nVIDIA GeForce FX5700 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8x AGP - Retail: $171

whoops, rest of this didn't belong in this forum. sorry.

Thanks :)

I would choose the Radeon 9600XT.

1. It's cheaper
2. It have better image quality
3. 256 Megs of Video RAM is nearly useless
4. Most of the time 128Megs cards have faster memory module (more overclocking potential)

What TheRod said. Yep.

What Cleeve & Rod said.

Also even the FX5700ULTRA would be an underdog against the R9600XT in most cases, the fact that it's a non-ultra rules it out completely. And you save a whack of green!

Ahahaha. Thanks fellas, my concern was that maybe Gigabyte card quality is not at par with BBA, but my question was answered! And maybe I will spend the extra dough for the 9800 pro.

Thanks again!
