Speed cut in half when hooked to my router.

Thanks in advanced for any help. I have a 50Mbps service. When I have the CAT 5 cable run from modem directly into my computer. I get 57Mbps. When I hook in my router and connect via a CAT 5 cable from router to computer I now get 26 Mbps. The router I have is a Belkin AC1200 AC+ Gigabit Router Model# F9K1113v1. There are no new updates for the firmware on my router. My computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit service pack 1 with 8 Gigs of Ram cpu is i7 running at 3.7 Ghz. I have installed a NVidia GTX 680 video card. I would like to get the 100 Mbps service but if the routers will not handle the speed than no reason to pay the money. My question would be is my router unable to handle these speeds and if so which router would I need to to get. I need the router since I have 2 computers and a laptop. Only the laptop connects wirelessly. Side note during all my speed tests only my 1 computer was on the network.

Something is wrong. Can you try another PC with the router or the laptop plugged in ethernet just to confirm you get 26mbs on all devices connected via ethernet to the router, than can go from there and start to figure out.

Maybe even a wonky cable, since you are using 1 cable when doing PC to modem, but then have to use 2 cables to modem to router and pc to router.

I ran the speed test on my girlfriends computer which is hooked to the same router with different CAT 5 cable. It came up also with 26.6 Mbps. I ran the speed test wirelessly to my Alienware 18" laptop and it also came back with a 26.4 Mbps. It does not seem to matter if I use the CAT 5 or the wireless the speed seems to be the same. It seems to me to be in the router itself. I cannot see any settings inside the router configuration that has made any difference. If I call the cable company (I get my internet thru Mediacom) I know that they will hook it directly to the computer and see that the connection speed is what I am paying for and tell me it is in the router and leave since their service is working as it should.

Yup, direct connect shows it's working fine. Everything seems like it's running at half duplex over full duplex, but that's not something that can usually ever be set on a router, only a PC thing, but with all PC's wired and wireless, something is wrong.

It is a few year old router, maybe it's just going bad.

Getting the 100mb/s service, you would need a new router anyways with a gigabit ethernet port as well as gigabit LAN ports in order to get the full 100mb/s anyways.

Still puzzling why the router is only working at half dupliex speed.

Worst case, go into the router settings and reset to default settings and see if anything happens.

I have got it fixed. I finally got it to do a factory restore. Then I changed all the options back to what I had previous one at a time and did a speed test after each change. I now have all the options back to what I had originally when I had the speed issue. So I do not know how it fixed the issue since all the settings are the same as before. You may be correct that the router may be on its way to router heaven in the sky. I will keep an eye on it and if it does it again the new router will be on its way that day.

Thank you getochkn for the help. What would you recommend for a new router? This one is not that old but maybe I did not do the best research when I got this one.
