Speed loss using security

Hi all.
I have a black Sky hub, default set up apart from a change to channel 6.
I have speed issues in parts of the house. I researched and apparently the Sky hubs are not too good on the wireless side.
I have a D-Link DIR 615 router so I thought I'd give it a go.
All is set up just fine and dandy and appears to improve performance until I apply security.
When the connection is left open I get a speed test around 35mb download.
As soon as I introduce WPA security the speed drops to 6mb and I get buffering on videos.
The security I use is thus, WPA/WPA2. AUTO (TKIP/AES). PSK.
Any clues?

Well, that appears to have worked. Thanks for that.
Just for learning purposes, why does it work?
I would have thought the router SHOULD choose the right one as it gives the user the choice to choose TKIP/AES, or am I expecting too much?
Cheers.
BTW, e-mail notifications to let me know of replies not working and not going to junk. Any ideas on that one?

Strangely this time I got notification but annoyingly the router only lasted an hour or so. It's back to being a slug so had to revert back to sky box.
Could it be to do with IP address renewal?

No, even after the lease time runs out dhcp will try to give you the same address.

Hmmm, then I am stumped. May have to put up with sky hub!!
