I was wondering (Just don't know what to do) how to speed up Windows 2000 in general. What I want to do is try to speed up boot time and also speed up the use of Windows 2000. I have noticed it takes forever and a day to boot because it loads every possible driver known to man. First, How do you know what driver to disable?

Another thing is that I notice Win2k executes certain things during use faster as long as it's on for a long period of time!?! Which it must be loading those programs into my RAM (I have 512MB). How do I make it run fast all the time?

Any help would be appreciated. I have never tweaked Windows 2000 to my liking so it would be some helpful information ...

I just installed Win2k and everything just right now. And, everything seems pretty slick. I like knowing that I'll be seeing less BSODs and stuff.

Anyways, I guess I have some suggestions. I used <A HREF="http://www.houseofhelp.com/articles/win2k_guide/" target="_new">this article from the House of Help in my installation</A>. I just found <A HREF="http://techupdate.zdnet.com/techupdate/stories/main/0,14179,2806334,00.html" target="_new">this article from ZDNet right now</A> (I haven't read it yet, but I will).

I hope some of those help. I'll be sure to check this post for more suggestions, though, cuz I can never learn enough.

Thanks a lot. I will get reading and see what comes of this.

I know I will never know everything, and I feel like I don't have enough time to learn what I want to!

BTW, I also use Cacheman 5 from <A HREF="http://www.outertech.com" target="_new">Outertech.com</A> to optimize some settings, without poking in the registry.
