First let me say if anyone thinks there is a better forum than CPUs to post this under please let me know...
I have a GA-965p-DS3 Rev 2 running F10 bios with a E4300
I just finished reading the Core 2 Duo Temp Guide:
http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/Core-Duo-Temperature-Guide-ftopict221745.html
and this post on "Unreal Low Temps"
http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/E4300-2997MHz-Unreal-Low-Temps-ftopict227462.html

So now for the most part I understand the difference between the Tc and Tj readings. Now I need to translate them into speed fan 4.32 settings.
So under the Configure -> Advanced section I am able to select three chips.
Intel Core $0 on ISA
HD0 (xxx) at $0 on Smart
IT8712F at $290 on ISA
under the IT8712F it lists three diodes which I currently all have set to a value of "Thermistor"

So the supposition is as follows
Temp 1 is a Tcase sensor requiring an offset of +0C
Temp 2 is a Tcase sensor requiring an offset of +0C
Temp 3 is a Ambient sensor requiring an offset of +23C
HD0 I have no basis of comparison
Case 0 is a Tjunction sensor requiring an offset of +15C
Case 1 is a Tjunction sensor requiring an offset of +15C

this would result in:
Sensor - Current Reading - Adjusted reading
Temp 1 - 35C - 35C
Temp 2 - 34C - 34C
Temp 3 - -2C - 21C
HD0 - 36C - Is this normal?
Core 0 - 35C - 50C
Core 1 - 33C - 48C

If anyone is able to provide any additional suggestions on Speedfan configs for the following that would be helpful as well:

If you list your results and variables, I'll be glad to help you correctly tweak SpeedFan.

Comp 8)

Sorry, not sure what you are asking for re: "results and variables"
The temps I used in the example are actual readings from speedfan.
I implemented the changes outlined and then ran TAT.
Idles temps seem to be off ~-5C in speedfan relative to TAT but at 100% they are within +/- 1C

What other information would you like?
I am running a E4300 @ 1.425v @ 9x333, all other voltages and timings are set to normal
I am using the Intel Stock HSF.
This all started as I was debating the value proposition of the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro which may be had for as little as $26 delivered to the Thermaltake XP-120 which runs in the neighborhood of $65 delivered including fan. I was trying to determine how much of a thermal load I have.
The only thing I am completely unsure of is what sensor 3 is. Its static temp reading is -2C and since I don't have any salted melting ice cubes on cotton cooling anything I have no clue what it is measuring. I just adjusted it so that it matched current ambient temp.

wchp, below is an example of the info needed:

Background

...when expressing Idle & Load test results, it's also necessary to define the variables such as:

Tcase = Idle & Load
Tjunction = Idle & Load, Hottest Core

Ambient = Room Temp
Chipset = Model
C2D = Model
CPU Cooler = Model
Frequency = CPU Clock
Load = Test Program
Motherboard = Model
Vcore = CPU Voltage

Thanks,

(1) Did you test with all fans at 100%?

(2) Are SpeedFan Tcase Idle and Load temps uncorrected?

(3) What is your SpeedFan Tjuntion Load temp?

Thanks,

(1) Did you test with all fans at 100%?
Yes, to the best of my knowledge. Speedfan thinks I have a IT8712 monitoring Chipset when in actuality the GA-965P-DS3 uses the IT8718.
It doesn't actually have any control over the fans from what I am able to determine or their speed.

(2) Are SpeedFan Tcase Idle and Load temps uncorrected?
Yes, Uncorrected (provided that is what it is measuring) listed as Core 0 and Core 1

(3) What is your SpeedFan Tjuntion Load temp?
Does not appear to monitor this OR this is what Core 0 and 1 are reporting.

My supposition that the Core 0 and 1 in speedfan are Tcase is that they don't track the TAT temps in a linear manor. They start out 20C +/- 2C below what TAT reports and then under full load seem to end up 15C +/-2C below what TAT reports.

I am presuming that TAT is showing me Tjunction and Speedfan Tcore.

Speed fan doesn't seem to report anything correctly as it stands hence my request for config assistance.

Background

C2D's feature 3 sensors at 2 different temperatures; a single on-die Tcase sensor (between the cores), and dual Tjunction sensors (one within each core).

Interpretation

The dual Thermal Junction sensors are how Tjunction is measured, and are the dual core temps displayed in TAT, and SpeedFan.

Results

Tcase (Motherboard Utilities) = 30c Idle, 50c Load (SpeedFan 4.32: CPU or Temp2)
Tjunction Hottest Core Only = 45c Idle, 65c Load (SpeedFan 4.32: Core0 / Core1)

Offsets

If temperatures don’t meet the Parameters, then SpeedFan 4.32 can configure offsets to correct for Tcase (CPU or Temp2) and Tjunction (Core0 / Core1).

Tips

(A) Tcase = SpeedFan 4.32: CPU or Temp2.

(B) Tjunction = SpeedFan 4.32: Core0 / Core1.

Got it?

(3) What is your SpeedFan Tjuntion Load temp?

Thanks,

wchp, thanks for the additional info.

There is not CPU on Speedfan...There is Temp 2 which regardless if it is set to Thermistor or Diode stays at a constant 34C no matter what is going on.

Since there is typically no ambient sensor, and SpeedFan doesn't detect the same "Temp X" on different system, Temp 3 is probably monitoring Tcase (CPU). Even though Temp 3's value is offset, if it shows an appropriate Delta, then it's your Tcase (CPU) temp. The Tcase shown in the line below is from your post in message #5, so if you can confirm Temp 3's Delta, then we can determine the proper offset.

Tcase = Idle 35C & Load 67C SpeedFan
Tjunction = Idle 35C & Load 71C SpeedFan, Hottest Core

Tjunction = Idle 55C & Load 91C TAT, Hottest Core

Ambient = 22.25C
Chipset = 965P
C2D = E4300
CPU Cooler = Stock
Frequency = 3.0
Load = TAT 100% Ten Minutes
Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev. 2
Vcore = 1.4250v

The follow sensors show no change under any situation. They appear to be displaying the "example" temps
Temp1: 35C
Temp2: 34C
Temp3: -2C
I have tried adjust speedfan advanced to both Thermistor and Diode with no change.
I think this is just not reading the IT8718 chipset as it is showing it as a IT8712

Please try uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling SpeedFan 4.32, as there are so many users with your motherboard who are running it, and have all 3 C2D temps functioning.

Thanks,

Comp 8)

No luck... Removed, Rebooted, Reinstalled, Tried it... same thing, rebooted again, no change...

This is on a Vista32 platform. I don't know if that has any relevance.

This is after a clean install...
Temps 1, 2 and 3 dont change:

Notice the voltages as well...
not making any sense.

Glad to see I'm not alone with this issue. This is what I'm reading in speedfan 4.32 with a e6400 and a DS3 Rev 3.3.

Vcore1: 1.26v
Vcore2: 1.89v (memory voltage?)
+3.3V: 3.28v
+5V: 4.95v
+12V: 3.2v (ranges from 0.5V - 3.4V)

-12V: -16.97v
-5V: -8.58v

+5V: 4.92v
Vbat: 4.08v

And fan speeds are in the millions. The only normal thing I see is temps.

Granted, I have a relatively generic 500W power supply that came with the case, but the rail amps seem fine. Hell, the 12V rail amps is 20! (on the sticker)

I've followed the OC guides for this board and disabled everything I should have in the BIOS (which is the latest one - F10) . The 12V numbers scare me the most. I can't imagine them being correct or I wouldn't be sitting stable at 333Mhz FSB (6400 @ 2.6Ghz) at the moment.
