I am downloading a game from Origin right now, and I noticed hat the speed read around 130 KB/sec. I remembered the other day nd I check'd again, speedtest rated speed at 1.1 Mbps. Something tells me that its megabits and that's why its around 130 KB/sec? (1000/8= 125 ish). Im not sure. Am I getting the speeds I should on this download?

Btw any tips on increasing origin download speed by any chance? Would really appreciate it on a 10 Gb download...

I have discovered the hard way, that many of the online speed tests are pure, unadulterated B.S.

I have given up on them, and am going with ShaperProbe to get my speed measurement.

According to speedtest.net I am getting less than 20Mbps, however I have tested with big downloads and am averaging 120Mbps, so I figure they are pure malarkey...

Your connection speed will be rated in either Kbps, or Mbps, transfers are KBps, or MBps depending on the speed... So for example if you are showing 1.1Mbps, then yeah, 130KB/sec transfer isn't shabby.

What is your provisioned bandwidth? If you are doing a lot of downloads, or worse, streaming, you will need the fastest connection you are willing to pay for...

So does that make Mb Megabits and MB Megabytes? I thought it was Mbit for Megabit. I also have an app on my iPod that measures the download and upload speeds. So my download is 1.29 Mbps and my upload is 307 kbps. When I'm downloading something on the computer it'll be in the 150 kbps range. Can you explain the difference a little bit more?

Darn. I knew it. You get what you pay for I guess. And ISP doesn't care. think I may try upgrading to 18mpbs, I really can't take the 130 kpbs range anymore

Yes, Mbps is Megabits per second. MBps is MegaBytes per second.

It would be far simpler if everyone standardized on one or the other...
