[SOLVED] Spending just 88USD for i5-7500 than 280USD to Ryzen Upgrade Worth it?

Me and My friend were trying to discuss this and need your help what to decide, He currently have G4560;B250;16GB 2400Mhz ;GTX10606GB; 250GB SSD/2TB HDD set up and thinking if upgrading to i5-7500 for just 88USD is a good decision than spending 280-380USD for Ryzen 5 2600 Upgrade with new mother board and new RAM set?

another factor for his decision making is the Installed Games and Apps on the current PC.

Appreciate all information or Suggestions.

Please avoid the Intel fanclub vs. Ryzen fanclub fight here since I'm using Ryzen 3 3200 at the moment.

i5-7500 for $88 seems to be a good option.
i7-6700 or i7-7700 would be better option, if you could get it for like $150.

used i7-6700 and 7700 normally cost 180USD here, Then brand new is like 200++
we'll save that option, thank you.

Once you get as high as $200 (an R5-3600 is often $190?), now you are just $85 or so from an on-sale B450 and complete gaming goodness for 4 years...

(I'd personally avoid putting more than $85 into the old 100/200-board based CPU's systems...(6700/7700 are good, but, too darned expensive, as out of production, and, the proverbial 'end of the line' for 100/200 series boards; the last 7700K I checked was $340+, right about what the CPU cost new 3 years ago...)

I've seen the original R5-1600 for as low as $79 in recent months....; that CPU on a $65 B350 board would be a bargain, and well above any i5-7400

Go ryzen. The quad core i5s in 2020 and beyond are probably going to struggle. I've even seen things suggesting quad core cpus with hyperthreading are beginning to struggle with some games. So at this point the more cores and threads the better imo.

I think we made a decision. I'm considering the future proof build and he's more on a budget, but I realized that if he have to spend another hundred bucks after 1-2 years is not gonna be a savings. Thank you.
