A couple of days ago i accidentally spilled water on my PC( I know not very smart) but i am interested in finding out if any parts are still usable. My ram and hard drive did not get wet so i am guessing they are still in working condition, but i am trying to see if any other parts are usable and if so how do i check. My pc starts up for a split second then shuts off when i try to boot it up. I have tried the paperclip trick on my psu and the fan started spinning I am just wondering what parts are still good if any.

was the computer on when you spilled the water? make sure you unplug the computer asap. take it apart and let them dry for a few days in front of a fan. if the computer was off when you spilled the water there is a good chance everything survived. even if it was on some things might still work but you might want to replace the motherboard

Most likely the whole system will be fried because although water isnt a strong conductor it still conducts electricity thats why its dangerous to touch anything that generates electricity while wet.

If the PC was off then you have a chance of recovering some things but let them dry for like 2 days before testing to see if they work

My pc was on when i spilled the water and as soon as the water made contact my monitor screen went black. I turned it off as fast as I could and i let the pc dry for a couple days but now it turns on for a split second with the gpu plugged in and unplugged and it just turns off for a split second.

I'lll buy a new motherboard next week and get back if it was the main cause, that is what i thought could be the main issue since the psu seems to be in working condition, Thank you.

I am going to a friends house tomorrow to test the GPU, ram, and hard drive to see if they are in working condition as well.

You case has absolutely no parts that play into having a working pc it just hold everything together and protects the components from possible hazards to the pc from the surrounding environment. Wierd analogy but its like a humans skin you can be alive with no skin at all but then your whole body is in danger from outside hazards that could be lethal

I believe you posted above how long its been since they got wet off the top of my head I believe you said 2-3 days but I would wait a full week so nanother 4 days of it just sitting in front of a fan completely drying out just to make sure its 100% dry. If theres even a little bit of water it can conduct enough electricity to fry the component if it wasnt already dead

True that. Don't pronounce anything dead until it is perfectly dry.
