So, what's the point of splice? I don't get it. How is attaching one
spell to an existing spell better than just playing too separate
spells?

***
Glacial Ray {1R}
Instant - Arcana
Champions of Kamigawa Common
- Glacial Ray deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
- Splice onto Arcane {1R} (As you play an Arcane spell, you may reveal
this card from your hand and pay its splice cost. If you do, add this
card's effects to that spell.)
***

Oh, nevermind. Now that I've typed it in, I get it. You don't
actually play the spell when you splice it, so you can reuse it every
time you play an Arcane spell.
Okay, that's not bad.

Well, since I typed it in already, feel free to discuss.

Too bad they took out "Legend" as a creature type, because then you
could 'Splice onto Legend'. Still, I'm sure we'll see Splice onto
Goblin, etc. I wonder if you could even do Splice onto Island. Hmmm.

Maybe sometime in the future. I don't know if Splice is just a block
mechanic or if they're going to reuse it in upcoming sets. Either way, we
might see "Splice onto X" within the Champions block.

> I wonder if you could even do Splice onto Island. Hmmm.

I doubt that, since playing a land doesn't use the stack. That would mean
that your opponent wouldn't have a chance to respond to the Splice spell,
since it wouldn't use the stack either. That's a pretty bold thing Wizards
would be doing. If, for instance, Glacial Ray (the card above) was "Splice
onto Mountain" or "Splice onto Forest", you could make a pretty potent deck
out of Glacial Rays, Fastbond, and a bunch of land.

4 Glacial Ray
1 Fastbond
4 Thoughtcast
4 Deep Analysis
4 Ancestral Knowledge
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Eternal Witness

4 Tropical Island
4 Volcanic Island
4 Taiga
5 Forests
10 Mountains
8 Islands

Just Mulligan until you get the Fastbond and Glacial Ray in hand, and go to
town. Glacial Ray, draw, Glacial Ray, Glacial Ray, draw, Glacial Ray,
Glacial Ray, draw, draw, Glacial Ray....etc. Hardly the best combo around,
but still good.

On top of that, it would be a hassle, rules-wise, because of the stack
issue.

Maybe because the spell stay in your hand ?! :)
It's more or less like have multiple copies with just one card.

it can´t be splice to a land when it must be a arcane card

He was speculating about future Splice cards that might use different
card types for splicing onto.

For example, "splice onto sorcery" or "splice onto land".

"Splice" will be a mid to late game mechanic. Especially for larger
effects with either Arcane spells or the "Spliced" spell, since you will
have to play both to keep the splice spell. Not sure what the powerlevel
will be? I think medium to low!?

I believe that Splice is supposed to be a block mechanic. I am sure that
they will add different ways they will use it over the next two expansions
of Kamigawa. They did the same thing with affinity from Mirrodin by adding
"affinity to 'land'". Although it did not work out as well as "affinity to
artifact". Maybe they will add a creature type (maybe Spirit) to the splice
list? They could add "Splice onto Legendary Creature".
