Split second freeze in games

Hi.

I have this wierd problem with my new PC. I run games on 150 fps (or more if I want), but get these freezes once in a while. I have seen other people having the same issue, but non of their solutions seem to work for me.

The freeze is like a normal freeze, and the sound seem to loop aswell. After the freeze, the games goes back to normal with 150 fps.

This is my setup:
GFX: GeForce GTX 760
CPU: Intel i5-4670K
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 8

I have my OS and drivers on my SSD, and Steam, games and other programs on my other hard disk. I haven't tried to put my games on the SSD, but I don't want to do that because it's only 120GB.

Games I get freezes in:
Counter Strike Global Offencive
Dota 2 (rarly, but it does happen)

Games that don't freeze (that I have noticed):
Far Cry 3
Portal 2

All the games runs smoothly except for these freezes I get.

I really want to fix this, could anyone of you be kind to help me find a solution?

It could be anything from a steaming load while playing(MMO's are bad for this) to another program hogging up system power.

I recommend you ensure your game files are defragged(you can do this in steam) and try FULL SCREEN and not fake full screen or maximized window.

Trying v-sync on vs off may also help.

I find the Source game engine has some micros stutter/skip issues to begin with. Full screen + no vsync seems to work best for it. Also game engines sometimes predict the next frame and get it wrong, this may cause slight hick-ups as well.

One more thing to try would be to set the maximum pre render frame to 1 to see if it helps.

It may be worth checking this out as well. it applies to source engine games like CS:GO and Dota 2

Verifying game cache you mean? It have been like this since the start, but I can give it a try. All games I play is fullscreen, not that borderless option.

I always keep my v-sync off since I have a 144hz monitor.

Yeah, I have noted that it only happens in Steam engine games (Dota 2, CSGO).

I'll also try the pre rendered frames to 1, because the freeze only happens when something is about to happen, if you know what i mean. Like in CSGO, when a person pops up from a corner and you start to shoot, it will freeze. So that might be it.

Thanks a lot!

No, I know how internet issues feels like. That would also been noticeable thought the ping/ms monitoring. But thanks anyway :)

Steam used to have an option to defrag game files. Guess they removed it(shows how often I look into it.).
Third party programs like Defraggler can defrag your full steam folder(do NOT defrag your SSD EVER).

Your issue sounds like a standard Source engine bug to be honest(I remember HL2 doing that almost every time someone first talked to you after passing a load point). To this day HL2 has issues with looping audio when it loads something(the updates made for games like Dota 2 and CS:GO make the engine MUCH better than it was at release).

As you play does it stop because everything ends up being loaded?

I don't know for sure if it stop because it's being loaded, but it sure feels like it. It is really frustrating though, because I spend a decent amount of money to hopefully get a flawless gaming experience.

I not think they had a definitive solution because of the number of variables.

I would create a thread about this because of the age of this one.

Please ensure all your drivers are upto date, try with vsync on and off to see if it changes things. Sometimes Vsync on can cause occasional skips in games
De-fragment your games files(HDD only, not SSDs).

Seriously? if it is internet connection and high ping issues it should have lag but no frame freezing issues. Some packets get missing while playing on med-low internet speed. It happened to me while on high Internet Speed of 20Mbps. Can u explain why in 5 ms frame freezes?
