I purchased a Netgear AC750 Range Extender and put it in my computer room. I have a 100ft ethernet cable wrapping around the house into the computer room. It plugs into the extender which acts as an access point. Works great.

But I'm suspicious of wifi; it always drops when you need it most. My computer is 5ft from the new access point, which only has one ethernet port, so I bought a splitter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QFJ4SHQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) hoping that one cable could go to the access point and one to my computer.

I put the splitter just before the access point and it works perfectly until I wire the other side to my computer. Then the access point can no longer find my router. Am I misusing something or did I purchase the wrong kind of splitter?

Thanks for any help :)
