Hello, quick question guys. My brother is getting a new PC but we don't want to spend extra money on an SSD for the OS.
And the problem is that when you install / unnistall too many apps on an HDD where the OS is also installed the system might get a bit slow.
If I split the HDD into 2 partitions (~150Gb/~850Gb) and keep the OS alone, do I get slowliness after a while as well??

Solution
This is typically caused by disk fragmentation. If you run a disk defrag, then it should eliminate any slowness you encounter.

That said, it's likely not going to matter. You would experience slowness when attempting to run a program. These programs are installed on the data partition which will get fragmented even if your OS partition does not. Even so, I would still recommend creating a separate partition for your OS for if/when your brother does get an SSD. That would make it very easy to close the OS over to the SSD.

Nope you won't if the workload is within the threshold also if you are getting a HDD, then go for WD black series of HDD's as they have high RPM and low failure rate, upon top of all they have 5 years Warranty.

Lastly, always run disk defragmentation, basically it keeps your HDD in check.
