SPP / EPP / ECP

Can somebody describe to me the difference between these parallel port modes?

SPP
EPP
ECP
EPP + ECP

Furthermore, what do the following options mean?

EPP 1.7, 1.9
ECP Use DMA

The default on my Matsonic seems to be SPP. I was just curious if I should worry about this setting... Thanks.

Like you, I really don't know what the exact differences are except that ecp and epp are faster than spp. Check the manual for the printer or whatever you have connected to your parallel port and set to that. My scanner says it is ECP compatible, so I set to ecp + epp and left the other settings alone.. it did speed up my scanner.

I suggest experimentation!
